Soils rain garden is a garden with a special
purpose: To collect storm-water runoff and store it, permit it
to be filtered and slowly absorbed by the soil. |
 |
The rain garden acts as a "bioretention area", much like the
floor of a natural forest habitat, where a spongy surface
layer soaks up water and allows it to slowly penetrate the
soil layer. Rain gardens are often located in man-made
depressions strategically located to intercept stormwater
runoff. Rain gardens have loose, |
| absorbent
soils; a shallow, bowl-shaped ponding area; and should be
planted with perennials that can tolerate the extremes of
total inundation to very dry conditions |
